When it comes to highest sales, they battle at the top, and both have a huge following of loyal buyers! Find out how the 2022 Ford F-150 vs the 2022 RAM 1500 compare!

Your RAM dealership brings you this comparison between giants, with these two full size trucks, and help you make the right choice.

Comparing engines and power

It is a well-known fact for trucks: engine choices are numerous and all offer different power, performance and capacities. Let's see how the different engines for the F-150 vs the RAM 1500 compare.

With Ford, the base model offers a 3.3 L V6 with 290 horsepower and 265 lb-ft. maximum torque. With RAM, performance has been optimized with a base model that offers over 300 horsepower, relying on a mild hybrid system: the 3.6 L Pentastar V6 offers 305 horsepower and 269 lb-ft. maximum torque, adding 90 lb-ft. upon ignition.

Ford follows with a 2.7 L V6 with 325 horsepower and 400 lb-ft. maximum torque. Once more, the RAM pickup offers a little more: its 5.7 L HEMI V8 offers 395 horsepower and 410 lb-ft. maximum torque. The optional eTorque technology also adds 130 lb-ft. torque upon ignition, for a powerful start.

Hybridization appears with Ford on the 3.5 L PowerBoost V6 with 430 horsepower and 570 lb-ft. maximum torque. Another non-hybrid version is also available, for 400 horsepower and 500 lb-ft. torque.

Rather than opting for another hybrid engine, the RAM 1500 truck brings forth a diesel engine, for lower fuel consumption numbers: the EcoDiesel V6 with 260 horsepower and generous 480 lb-ft. maximum torque.

After all of these V6 engines, Ford offers a 5.0 L V8 and another high range 3.5 L V8, that offer 400 and 500 horsepower respectively. The second is only available on the Raptor version.

RAM takes this much further with its 6.2 L supercharged HEMI V8, which comes standard on the TRX, and offers 702 horsepower and 650 lb-ft. maximum torque, which is the most power and torque offered for its category! It is coupled with an 8- speed automatic transmission with manual mode for those who want an even more pleasurable drive.

If, in your option, the best truck also means the most powerful truck, then the RAM 1500 will be the perfect one for you.

Consumption

Since, with RAM, the entry-level engine utilises a mild hybrid system, consumption numbers on highway (9.4 L/100 km) are lower than the Ford (9.8 L/100km), when both are equipped with two-wheel drive.

Fuel consumption numbers follow each other and are similar according to performance, but it is also interesting to compare the RAM's diesel engine with the Ford's only hybrid. The first has consumption numbers as low as 8.0 L/100 km on highway, while for the second, these numbers are 9.1 L/100 km. However, the RAM has higher fuel consumption numbers for city driving. This means the choice will depend on how you are planning on using your truck!

Interior and comfort

Both the F-150 vs RAM 1500 offer a wide array different interior versions that can also integrate high-quality leather upholstery, heated seats and luxury trims. Given that they are trucks made for workers, they also offer a series of practical options and configurations.

Critics often mention how RAM seats are superior both in comfort and support. RAM is also the only one to offer heated and ventilated rear seats.

Interior volume

When it comes to comfort, the RAM offers more legroom both for front passengers and rear passengers with the Team Cab configurations. In fact, the interior can measure up to 168 mm more than its competitors!

Technology

When it comes to infotainment, the new generation Uconnect 5 system found on the RAM is close to unbeatable. Resolution is significantly superior, speed is enhanced and it integrates wireless Apple CarPlaymd and Android Automd as well as 5 user profiles, and much more! In both cases, the optional multimedia screen is 12- inches.

Standard equipped driver assist technologies are similar for both. Amongst other things, you will find:

  • A rear-view camera;
  • Pre-collision assistance;
  • Automatic emergency braking;
  • And much more.

However, RAM offers 100 standard and optional features, depending on your needs.

Towing capacity

When it comes to towing capacity, Ford boasts the ability to offer the greatest towing capacity for its category. Yes, it is true that its 3.5 L non-hybrid engine can tow up to 14,000 pounds.

However, RAM is not far behind with its 5.7 L V8 that offers a 12,750 pound towing capacity that is also available on entry-level models, contrary to the 3.5 L Ford engine.

The RAM diesel engine can also tow up to 12,560 pounds, which is very close to the hybrid Ford engine with its 12,700 pounds.
