On the market for nearly four decades now, the RAM 1500 has been among the best-selling trucks in the industry year after year, in addition to earning the title of Best Truck in 2020 if you opt for the EcoDiesel model. But while the F-150 is a tough competitor, the RAM does very well, outperforming its rival in many areas! So, here is an overview of the F-150 vs. RAM 1500 features.

Outdoors

For 2020, the RAM 1500 can be fitted with 22-inch wheels, compared to the maximum 20 inches for the Ford truck. You'll also appreciate its wide grille, its class-exclusive active air intake, as well as its many possible configurations, namely a Crew or Quad cab and a 5-foot 7-inch or 6-foot 4-inch truck bed. No matter what your needs and your budget are, you will find a 2020 RAM 1500 configuration that will meet them!

Under the hood

A wide range of engines is available for the RAM truck, depending on the model chosen. Thus, you will find one of the following engines under its hood:

  • A 3.6-litre V6 with 305 horsepower and e-Torque technology,
  • A 3.0-litre V6 EcoDiesel with 260 horsepower,
  • A 5.7-litre V8 with 395 horsepower,
  • A 5.7-litre V8 with e-Torque mild hybrid system, also 395 hp.

While the RAM 1500 offers a mild hybrid system, this feature is absent from the 2020 Ford F-150; to recharge the 48V battery, you'll use regenerative braking. What's the purpose of the mild hybridisation? Depending on whether you opt for the V6 or V8, it provides an additional 90 to 130 lb-ft of launch torque. What's more, by opting for the 5.7-litre V8 engine, you'll benefit from the largest towing capacity in this class, at 12,750 pounds, while the diesel engine offers a maximum capacity of 12,650 pounds.

Interior

Spacious and elegant, the interior of the RAM 1500 will allow you to comfortably accommodate up to 6 occupants. You'll also benefit from a 151.1-litre cargo space, namely more than its rival. Another advantage over the F-150 is that the RAM 1500 offers, an exclusive in this segment, rear seats with 8-degree recline for added comfort, and you'll also enjoy the best rear legroom in the class.

RAM has spared no expense in terms of commodities to make the interior as comfortable as possible! In fact, depending on the version and options chosen, you will be entitled to heated front and rear seats, ventilated front seats, a dual-pane power sunroof, dual-zone climate control, cloth or leather upholstery, wood trim and much more.

Technology also takes pride of place onboard the RAM 1500, with features such as a configurable 7-inch color screen in the instrument cluster, the UConnect 4 system with an 8.4-inch or 12-inch touchscreen, the latter being the largest in its class, Apple CarPlay/Android Auto compatibility, a navigation system and a 900-watt Harman Kardon sound system with 19 speakers, the most powerful in its class. Finally, the active noise control system will allow you to enjoy a quieter cabin than ever before.

Safety is also on the agenda in the RAM 1500, with state-of-the-art technologies such as 360-degree Surround View system, Forward Collision Warning, Parking Assist systems, Blind-Spot Monitoring with Trailer Detection, Adaptive Cruise Control and much more.
