If we add up the number of versions of these 3 models, we arrive at an impressive figure of more than 70 variants. It's safe to say that you'll be spoiled for choice! Joking aside, not everyone has the budget to buy a brand-new RAM or GMC truck, but fortunately, there are used trucks on the market in excellent condition and at very reasonable prices.

The best used trucks

Needless to say, the competition among full-size pickups is fierce, with manufacturers competing year after year to equip their protégés with new functions and innovative features. Of course, they all have their good points and their bad points, but in a comparison of full-size trucks by automotive journalists from The Car Guide, in which the Ford F-150, Chevrolet Silverado 1500, GMC Sierra 1500 and RAM 1500 took part, it was the GMC Sierra and RAM that took the first two places.

GMC Sierra 1500

The GMC Sierra 1500 is undoubtedly one of the best-selling vehicles in North America, and much of that success is due to its many variations and engines, capabilities and reliability, but the same could be said about RAM used trucks. For 2019, the Sierra was redesigned but despite the changes, kept its strong build and the lines on the sides give it more sportiness. Among its exclusivities, the Sierra offers a carbon fiber box, the CarbonPro, infinitely lighter and resistant to scratches and corrosion.

In 2017, the Sierra was considered a vehicle with excellent resale value, alongside its sibling the Canyon. In its 2017 versions, this pickup increased its towing capacity to 5,670 kg, or 12,500 lb, and the 6.6-litre Turbo Diesel V8 engine boosted its output to 445 horsepower.

RAM 1500

In 2011, the name Dodge RAM was replaced by the RAM 1500. One of the undeniable attractions of this truck is obviously the quality and luxury of its interiors, for which it has received many awards and honors. In 2016, the RAM catalog added the Rebel version, and the 5.7-litre HEMI engine made a welcome return. In 2018, there were special Tungsten and Harvest Editions, but regardless of the RAM model, they all share exceptional capabilities and remarkable performances.

One of the RAM's particular attractions, aside from its plush and ultra-comfortable interior, is its massive grille and muscular look, not to mention its storage spaces like the RamBox cargo management system, or the hidden bins under the floor. Also, with an almost infinite variety of models, versions, engines, body lengths, colors, options, etc., the RAM will satisfy even the most demanding customers.

RAM 1500 Classic

It was in 2019 that the manufacturer decided to add the name Classic to its pickup truck range, and in 2020 we learned that FCA would manufacture this variant for an indefinite period of time, to the delight of pickup lovers. The RAM Classic, unlike the other 1500 models, costs less but retains the same attributes that make it a competent and robust pickup. In fact, it's really perfect for those who don't really need the latest technology, but certainly wouldn't want to do without its capabilities.

Management quickly realized that the "Classic" was one of the best decisions, as it is now the best seller. Available in 5 versions, the Tradesman, Warlock, Express, SLT and Black Edition, the RAM 1500 Classic sells for over $10,000 less than the RAM 1500.
